The Lagos State Government has launched a decisive crackdown on illegal estate developments along the Epe corridor, according to a statement by Oluyinka Olumide, Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development.
Olumide revealed that a special joint operation was conducted in compliance with the state executive council’s directive, targeting areas such as Alaro City, Okorisan, Igbodu, and more, with notices served on various estate developments.
Erring developers were urged to regularize their documents promptly, emphasizing the importance of obtaining layout approval, planning permit, and fencing permit before commencing any estate project.
Highlighting the significance of these requirements in fostering an organized and sustainable built environment, Olumide cautioned property investors against engaging in estates lacking official approval, warning of potential government intervention, and property demolition.
To facilitate compliance, developers and buyers were advised to utilize the Planning Information Service provided by the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, offering vital insights into approvable developments and zoning arrangements.
Oluwole Sotire, Permanent Secretary of the Office of Physical Planning, affirmed the ministry’s commitment to assisting developers through necessary procedures, urging adherence to approval processes.
Moreover, Kehinde Oshinaike, General Manager of the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA), extended a 90-day amnesty period for property owners and developers to regularize planning permits for existing buildings, emphasizing the importance of timely compliance.
