Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has increased the minimum wage of workers in the state civil service from N40,000 to N70,000.

The governor declared that the new minimum wage would take effect on Workers Day, May 1, 2024.

Obaseki made this announcement on Monday during the commissioning event of the Labour House, built for organized labor in the state.

He also promised to increase the monthly salary of workers to over N70,000 if the Federal Government approved a new minimum wage for its workers.

Obaseki also named the Labour House after his predecessor, former governor of the state, Adams Oshiomhole. The New Diplomat reports that these developments have been greeted with excitement in Edo State by civil servants and many residents of the State.
