Tinuade Sanda, who was recently relieved of her duties as the managing director and chief executive officer of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), finds herself in the midst of a certificate scandal. Sanda’s dismissal by Eko Disco and its parent company, West Power and Gas (WPG) Limited, occurred within a span of one month.Initially hailed for her appointment as Eko Disco’s MD in March 2022, Sanda’s tenure took a contentious turn when an internal investigation was launched into her qualifications.

On March 25, Dere Otubu, the chairman of Eko Disco’s board of directors, announced Sanda’s recall, following a directive from the Nigerian Electricity Distribution Commission (NERC). Subsequently, West Power and Gas (WPG) terminated her employment.

Allegations have surfaced regarding the authenticity of Sanda’s educational credentials, particularly her claimed degrees from prestigious institutions like Harvard Business School and the University of Edinburgh. Of particular scrutiny is her purported PhD from “University Management Science and Technology, Benin Republic,” an institution that seems to have no verifiable existence.Further investigations revealed discrepancies in her educational background, including conflicting information regarding her attendance at Harvard Business School and the University of Edinburgh.

Additionally, her claimed memberships in professional institutes in the US and UK have been called into question.Efforts to verify Sanda’s credentials have been met with obstacles, including unresponsive institutions and missing records.Sanda’s LinkedIn profile has undergone alterations following her dismissal, raising doubts about the accuracy of her previously listed educational qualifications.

TheCable’s investigation highlights the need for thorough scrutiny of educational claims, especially in positions of leadership and responsibility.
